The St Vincent de Paul Society (England & Wales), known as the SVP, is part of an international Christian voluntary network dedicated to tackling poverty in all its forms by providing practical assistance to people in need.

Founded in Britain in 1844, we foster diverse and inclusive connections, as a Society that is welcoming of people of all faiths and none. We joyfully extend our hand in the care and personal service of individuals and families who need support. The essence of our work is person-to-person contact and spending time with people is our greatest gift.

How we work:

  • Through befriending, visiting, offering support
  • Through community projects supporting those in need
  • Through supporting twinned conferences in India
  • Through working locally with other caring agencies

Membership:

  • New members always welcome and very much needed. Membership is open to anyone over 18 years old who accepts the Christian ethos of the Society and is committed to love God through serving their neighbour.
  • DBS and application process in place and ongoing training is given St. Aelred’s Conference York meets fortnightly at 7:30 – 8:45 pm Thursday evenings in St. Aelred’s Community Centre.
